James Kerns of Malverne, who was the popular owner of an area bike shop, died Sunday, July 14 at age 48.

James M. Kerns was the proprietor of Laurelton Cycle in Jamaica, Queens, established in 1928.

The shop in Springfield Gardens opened in the 1920s and was passed down through three generations in the Kerns family, according to a 2005 article in Times Ledger Newspapers

Kerns was the son of Joan A. and the late James A.; brother of Colleen J. and Michael K. and his wife Johanna; uncle of Collin and Catherine. 

Visitation is on Wednesday, July 17 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Flinch &  Bruns Funeral Home, 34 Hempstead Ave., Lynbrook.

A funeral mass is Thursday, July 18 at 9:45 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church in Malverne.
